Ngai Tahu Election update

Ngai Tahu elections are heating up. 8 Papatipu Runaka have completed their process. 10 to go, with Kaikoura and Awarua looking a bit behind compared to everyone else. Chart from Henrietta here

We may end up with a 50/50 split between the two camps. That will make the election of the Kaiwhakahaere interesting. Maybe Ngai Tahu whanui should elect our Kaiwhakahaere rather than the other reps.

If your eyes are a bit less than perfect like mine

Oraka Aparima - Stewart Bull
Koukourarata - Elizabeth Cunningham
Makaawhio - Tim Rochford
Otakou - Tahu Potiki
Taumutu - Sandy Lockhart
Rapaki - Wally Stone
Waewae - Lisa Tumahai
Puketeraki - Matapura Ellison

Your idea of an elected Kaiwhakahaere by all Ngai Tahu is one well worth exploring.

One Representative for each of the Papatipu Runanga and one for those not engaged with the Runanga seems fair enough. Also, we would like to think the Kaiwhahaere is above petty runanga politics at the table and can take the Ngai Tahu voice forward with the support of the iwi.
