Enough water - but too many applications to irrigate

An accurate and timely acknowledgement by Environment Canterbury:

"There is not enough water for all the current consent applicants in the Waitaki catchment."

"ECan chief executive Bryan Jenkins acknowledged there was a "mismatch" between the number of available consents and the amount of water available for allocation from the Waitaki River and its tributaries between the Waitaki Dam and Black Point."

Hmmm - one of their options is to adjust the plan so that more water can be taken.
