From Stuff
"New Zealand's International Whaling Commission (IWC) representative Sir Geoffrey Palmer has defended a new proposal on commercial whaling after harsh criticism from anti-whaling groups.
The proposal, presented to the IWC at a informal meeting in the US over the weekend, would allow Japan, Norway and Iceland to openly hunt whales despite a 1986 moratorium on commercial whaling but aim to reduce the total catch over the next 10 years. What is it with these ex members of parliment - palmer you should be ashamed to be putting this forward - where is your backbone man.
"Australia has rejected the proposal and said it will go to the International Court of Justice if negotiations fail."Jeepers aussie leading the way...
Update from stuff - mccully says
"If there is a suggestion of a diplomatic solution we will obviously tell New Zealanders what's on the table and seek their views."Pull the other one mate it's got bells on - we are not as stupid as you look.
The Standard have got into this one too
