yes still quite a (eternal) debate ...kia ora maps, <br />yes still quite a (eternal) debate within Ngai/Kai Tahu about this. It seems that internally the Kai Tahu, Kati Mamoe are used and externally the northern influenced Ngai and Ngati are used. It amazing to think in the old days a persons accent could identify where they were from, down to the hapu in some cases, in much the same way as regional variations of accents within the UK are easily discernable. Thanks for letting me know about this site - it seems to have piles of interesting stuff on it. <br /><br />I have noticed that in some older publications the Maori name for Mt Cook is given as Aorangi - I assume this is because te reo Kai Tahu was ignored for a long time in favour of a model of the Maori language that owed a lot to a few northern iwi?
